I'm a little in over my head – and need to get this figured out for work asap. (not a developer – just helping out boss)
We currently have a website hosted and registered on godaddy. pretend its website .com
Boss wanted redesign and new host because godaddy sucks. I redesigned the website with a2hosting .com
right now its designed and ready to go at website.a2hosting .com
I tried transferring the domain to a2hosting but failed.
What do I need to do to get the new website to be website .com with the new hosting. I know I could duplicate then upload to godaddy and that be the temp fix – but I need to switch everything over to a2. can anyone help me or point me to the right direction. I am lost here.
(obviously website is not website.com)

The simplest way to get the site live is to transfer the domain to the new host. Do you see any error messages in the control panel explaining why the domain transfer failed?
Is the domain name also registered with Godaddy? Wherever it is registered, you need to change the name servers/DNS using the settings the new host gives you.
A2HOSTING will give you the nameservers to use. Usually something like ns1.a2hosting.net and ns2.a2hosting.net … But check and get them from a2.
Then go to your domain name registrar (even if it is GoDaddy) and change to custom nameservers. Give it 24-48 hours and you should be fine.
Make sure your new website is set to use website.com before the change.
24-48 hours and propagation will handle it. Note that the website will be unstable during that time.
After you are set, you can look back at moving the domain name.
Good luck. A2 support will also help you. They’re pretty good.
Has this been resolved?
If you want your domain to stay in GoDaddy:
* Ask the A2Hosting support to get the IP Address or A Record of the new website you created. Also ask them to add your domain as the primary domain to the new website.
* Go to GoDaddy, and ask the GoDaddy support to apply the IP Address or A Record to your domain.
If you want to transfer your domain to A2Hosting:
– Ask the GoDaddy support to get the Auth/EPP code of your domain and the DNS record list
– On your A2Hosting account, there should be a page somewhere there to transfer the domain. Just follow the process and in one of those steps, you need to enter the Auth/EPP code you got from GoDaddy
– The transfer might take 24-48 hours or more.
– Once the transfer is done, add your DNS record list to your A2Hosting. You can ask the support to do this if you’re not sure, and while doing so, ask the support to connect the domain to your new website.
DM, I can help you. This simple solution.
It’s always DNS.
