Files in the WordPress uploads folders visible on google search

[ad_1]

We have a PDF file that was upload to the website in the uploads folder and have noticed that it is appearing in a google search and is visible all the public.

How do you stop this from happening?

  1. If you block that off you also stop images from showing on your site.
You can tell Googlebot to back off from those folders with the robots.txt file and I think there are ways through the .htaccess file as well (but that’s a bit more technical).

If those PDFs are something ‘secret’ you should store them someplace else.

  2. Search “exclude WordPress content from Google search” and you should find some help.
