Google Analytics – Site Kit plug-in or adding code to my WP theme?

[ad_1]

Hi folks, as my WordPress website (for a tour company) is about to go live, I’m looking into Analytics. So far I’ve gathered that there are 2 options:

1) use a plugin such as Site Kit that will give me an overview of my website traffic directly in my WP dashboard

2) add a bit of code to my website to set up Google Analytics and then have access to more metrics on GA

As I’d like as much analytics as I can get and don’t want to slow down my website with more plugins, I want to go with option number 2. I’m not a dev but I understand from my Google research that I just need to go to WP dashboard > Appearance > Theme Editor > Theme Files > functions.php and add the Google Analytics tracking code.

Is that correct? Or is there anything more complex to do and maybe not do it as I don’t have a tech background?

Thanks a bunch
