Help with URL slug

I’ve been searching and can’t find a working solution. Would really appreciate help as I’m new to WordPress and this particular issue is maddening.

I am using Elementor and have created a simple static website with 6 pages, very basic stuff. I just tried to manually type my page.com/about and got a 404. Apparently the URL is mypage.com/?pageid=123 or something like that.

Searches told me I should change the URL slug under the page edit options. Unfortunately, underneath Permalink it only lists the URL but no box to change the slug.

Also, if I use “quick edit” on the page I do see a slug name that matches, for example it sounds “about”. Yet the actually URL my page.com/about doesn’t work at all.
