How to remove ads from my blog that I didn’t put there?

[ad_1]

UPDATE: THANK YOU all!
Reddit community always comes through in the clutch!

It seems like it was the disqus plug in. I disabled it and that seemed to solve the issue.

Is there a better plug in for comments these days, or should I just remove comments from all posts?
Not that I get many but I am still holding out hope for engagement!

I’ve been blogging for going on 11 years, daily for almost 7. I have a ton of content on my site and to date I haven’t really thought about monetizing it.

I’m a bit embarrassed by the fact that despite over a decade of blogging I really don’t know much about the technical behind the scenes of it (I usually publish through the WordPress app)

Anyway, I’ve noticed that at the bottom of every post, after the WordPress generated “related posts” are a bunch of ads.

I did not put those ads there. I’ve never even signed up with an ad network.

It’s a self-hosted blog and I use a private host (meaning not a major hosting service like siteground, bluehost, etc. a guy who runs a hosting biz as his side hustle, so I get personal attention)

I’ve asked my hosting provider about it and he can’t figure it out.

First it just looked like the ads showed in Safari but I see them now in chrome on my iPhone.

If someone is going to make money off of this I want it to be me, obviously.

Was wondering if anyone here could help me figure out

  • how those ads got there and
  • how to get them off

I’d potentially like to sign up with an ad network, and if I’m going to have ads on my site I’d like to actually earn the income from them

The blog is at https://mymeadowreport.com.

  1. Either you’ve been hacked or one of your plugins has started doing something dodgy. Do you recognise all of the installed plugins? I’d start by disabling them all and turning them back on one by one – to see when the ads appear.

Have you kept the plugins and themes updated? And WordPress itself?

The downside to WP being the most popular software in the world for site-building is that it’s attacked by hackers more than any other software. You really need to keep on top of updates.

  2. It’s disqus (Disqus Comment System).

You must have installed the free version to your wordpress site. They made changes to this product about 2 years ago that adds loads of ad’s to the free version (including popup ads which I get if I turn off my adblocker) – you have to pay $12/month to remove the ads.

Remove the disqus plugin, and this should remove the ads.

  3. Please monetize your blog, having such an old blog and contant activity… you lost so much money for not doing this sooner. Just put some adsense in there. Don’t get greedy. Good Luck and Happy Blogging!
