So I was trying to fill in a form for my college, and I saw at the bottom there was a Captcha. This is fine. But what isn’t fine is that it has no way of filling it out or doing anything with it. Just “Please enter the following code: *To use CAPTCHA, you need* *Really Simple CAPTCHA* *plugin installed.”* I know college sites aren’t great and I’m not even trying to fix it, I just wanna know what WordPress even is because I spent way too long trying to find the answer when I could have just filled out a different form

They didn’t set up the captcha correctly I think.
WordPress is a software you use to create websites. Is the most widespread and it’s easy to use. You can create almost anything with WordPress: Blogs, business sites, eCommerce and, yes, you guessed it: College sites.
However, WordPress is quite simple at its roots so you use something called a “Plugin”. This adds funcionality to your website. In your example, the developer of the site needs to use two plugins: a Forms plugin and a Captcha plugin.
What probably happened is that either the developer or a third person (Someone that manages the site) deactivated the captcha plugin. Without this the form can’t be validated so it’s not being sent.
Be careful about forms for college.
I work for an college IT, and we get flurry of phish emails that look like authentic forms from our school.
They’re not, and many accounts get hacked this way.
Just be sure it’s actually from your college before submitting info.
If you already submitted info and you think it might be phishy, reset your password and contact your IT.
