When it comes to WordPress, speed is the name of the game, so upon learning about this new format, I found out it has slower load times than let's say WebP.
So my question is, why in the world would anyone want to use it ? (Especially on mobile)
What is the point of having more compression but slower loading times ?
I mean, they also argue that WebP can blur images when you blow them up.
But the way I do it, I compress images in photoshop and you can set the compression level on a scale of 1-100 where I never lose clarity at anything above 66

Do you think so many top developers who are working on it don’t know about it or nobody noticed?
What do you mean by “slower load time”? Load time is based on file size, not image file format. If you have 2 images that are the same file size (eg webp + AVIF), one can’t be slower than the other.
Do you actually mean that the image quality of AVIF, when matching the image quality of WebP, the AVIF file size will be bigger?
Can you provide a link/source of what exactly you’re referring to?
Are you referring to filesize or decoding times?
Saw a video on this, the dude was comparing avif with jpg xl, and it was the same question.
Why in the world is Google pushing for this while cutting support for jpg xl?
avif is not only loading slower but also has a size limit because it’s a video format used for images.
While jpg xl had dope stuff like showing low quality image first, and even zoned download where first the important part of the image gets fully downloaded in high quality, like faces and such.
Weirdly jpg xl is not supported anymore while avif is being pushed by google.
EDIT:
Found the video
