Is themeforest worth it?

Hello fellow developers,

I've been working as a web developer for 5 years now, specialized in custom wordpress development (themes, plugins etc.).

Considering my experience in creating custom themes, my question is: Is it worth it (financially) to create a theme to be sold on themeforest?

If so, what was your experience doing it?

  1. I heard it went downhill for a lot of people that sold themes (not the buyers) and it was incredibly difficult to even make enough money

  2. I can’t answer your question, but out of interest: What kind of theme would you develop to sell on ThemeForest, FSE or Hybrid?

  3. The big hitters (Avada etc.) have big teams, lots of features, bundled plugins, weekly changelogs, dedicated support teams. Very hard to compete with that unless you find an untapped niche.
