Is WP Rocket Controversial?

I,m in marketing, and yesterday I got a message a client that their hosting company rep was talking about how WP Rocket is controversial and how WordPress broke ties with it so now all updates are manual and he's removing it from all sites. Quick research does not back this up in any way that I can see, has anyone else heard anything about this, or could the client have been mistaken?
