Hello, have been using WordPress since 2004 or so to build websites as a hobby. Looking for someone to work for editing WordPress sites. Very familiar with envato, wpbakery, etc. Have been in retail for the last 20 years and am ready to take the jump. Any recommendations on where to look?

Forgeting Envato and WP Bakery would be a good place to start. Learn guttenberg, css, basic html and ACF for a start. That should catch you up to a more modern WP framework. Then try to make your own block. The work part comes next
