Hello everyone I would like advice on this. I also have questions.(I’ll put the questions at the end)
What I know:
From what I know .org=complete freedom but security is completely on you
While .com has many limitations but is more secure. But you can’t do anything with plug ins until you have the business plan(I currently have this now)
But I’m still confused on the price of things. But I’ll first say the site I’m building.
I just need a site where people can subscribe with payment plans and post user content similar to reddit’s post format with the title and content(pages will be seperated by each month. One page is January for users then the next page will be February when that month comes with the ability to lock the previous month post. not subreddits or anything.) Very simple and the plug ins I see I need are all free on the .com
So far it looks like with the total for .com I only need to pay the 300
While I look into the ..org start up for the domain name and hosting can cost 3-20 dollars from what I’ve seen and can probably get everything set up for about $50. But then I see people talking about security plug ins, basic plug ins and themes costing $200-$300+ I know the .com has paid plug ins and themes as well but I don’t see a need for them in what I’m doing.
However .com has all the security and everything else included within that 300
I may have understood wrong but I thought someone said the pricing for .com and .org plug ins are different? Doesn’t make sense to me so I’m curious if that’s true as well.

Security is my biggest fear:
Assuming I have the technological expertise of a potato 🥔 should I be that worried about the self hosting security or am I thinking to much?(I know wordpress itself is secure and the main security issues lie with plug in and themes.) Which I believe the .com tries to make sure no issues like that crop up.
.comvs.org prices:
Am I wrong with what I found about the prices with the .org? Is it actually cheaper considering everything else that’s need to be done without the .com doing it for you?
.Com ban hammer 🔨:
I found some people saying they got banned with no warning and they have no idea why they where banned and could not be unbanned. So I was wondering if I decided to stay with the .com could I constantly back everything up in a way where If I get banned out of no where I can just take my wordpress to .org self hosting? I asked the .com support about the user generated content I’m focusing on and they said I should be fine but I believe in having a back up plan just in case.
As for my website I plan to do much more with it in the future but to get it out I just need a payment plan for users and a place for them to post content in this format that’s all I care about right now.
I wrote this on my phone and tried to make it look nice. I appreciate and thank eveyone for any clarification.
