  1. Hey, congratulations. Welcome to WordPress!

The general gold standard for getting into WordPress development is Brad Schiff’s Become a WordPress Developer: Unlocking Power With Code.

    https://www.udemy.com/course/become-a-wordpress-developer-php-javascript/

Note: The price of Udemy courses jumps around a lot. The list price is in the $100.00US range but first-time visitors to Udemy can often get it for ~$15.00/US. In my opinion it’s worth $100 but obviously try to get a lower price. (If you don’t get a good price the first time you mght try from different devices, a different browser, or with incognito mode.)

As a long-time trainer and former instructional designer I think the course is very well paced. It orients you to WordPress development standards and practices by beginning with with the very basics of using WordPress functions to build out a simple theme. It then continues all the way to the basics of block development.

It’s tempting to say something like “just dig into the WordPress Codex” but in my experience supporting sites built by programmers who weren’t familiar with WordPress when they started, a basic orientation goes a *long* way to keep you from making “g3nuis programmager” mistakes.

  2. I guess FSE or Headless WordPress or plugin development would be some keywords for you?
