I use mailchimp and spend $300+ per month sending usually one email per month to about 30k list.
Looking at alternatives like sendy, octopus, etc but intrigued by wordpress plugins like mailster and “the newsletter plugin” with Amazon SES. I’m hesitant because I want to keep my WP clean and simple.
Anyone using plugins can give advice? Does it slow down site or cause problems? What about handling 30,000+ list – I assume they go in the main WP db and not a separate one.
I like the idea of integrating with the Events Calendar plugin which I’ll be using so I can send weekly or so emails automated with events.
Anyone got a setup they like using?

Have you checked out [https://www.sendinblue.com/]) ? I see it mentioned here all the time. I haven’t used it, but it’s very cheap.
With Amazon SES and Mailster I used to send 60K emails per month for ~$3.50
