So I have this small blog I manage on WordPress for a friend and he sometimes will use images he has found that are repurposed from images uploaded in google maps (Like if you click on a location and there are images of that location uploaded by either the property owner or others.
Now, we’ve used these types of images from google for like 10 years on wordpress with no issue (Its a non-commercial blog, barely gets any page views so I’ve never been concerned with any potential copyright issues or whatever). But suddenly, beginning today, any version of this process once I upload to image and view it in draft or publish, the image is just blank/grey.
To clarify, I can see the image when I upload it to the wordpress gallery, no problem. It’s just once I upload it to the post I intend to use it in and then post or view as draft that it is grey.
**My question is** if anyone knows if this is a new setting by google to prevent people repurposing screenshots in this way? I mean, if so, it makes sense. I’m just curious when this change came about, if that is indeed what is happening here (as an experiment, I even tried taking a picture of one of those images from google maps using my phone, and then uploading *that* to gallery and even that did the same thing).
**Is this a new issue with google or with wordpress?**

and to provide further clarification, I’m not talking about things like screenshots from streetview, but specifically images people have uploaded that you can view when viewing a specific location on google maps. So like a picture of a public park, for example.

Now that is wild
You must have a conflict with something.
Did you try to upload other random pictures not from Google and see what happens? It sounds like a problem on your wordpress.
Thats not Google that is doing that
