I got this wordpress site from a client I had to optimize and improve the website because it was so slow and lacked SEO optimization. When I started looking at the admin dashboard, there were many unnecessary plugins installed, and I removed them all. Still the website is so slow and when I ran a Google PageSpeed Insight, it showed me issues with CSS and Javascript. Then I noticed that it was using a custom theme called “TheGEM”. It has more css and javascript files files than the total amount of pages the website have. Should get rid of the theme plugin and build from scratch. Are there any good drag and drop theme plugins you recommend?

I’v aways used a theme that is very light in CSS (I’ve been using GeneratePress <free version> for about a year and haven’t had any issues. Not really a drag and drop but it serves me well enough.
2. If the site isn’t being served by a CDN (cloudflare, akamai, amazon cloudfront, etc) then set it up.
3. Install the nitropack plugin and set the optimization mode to Ludicrous. This will minify all the js and css script that is active and compress most of if not all the other images.
