Where do I place PHP file in the Child Theme?

Google can’t seem to answer my questions. When making a small change to a php file, I’ve been told I need to place it into the child theme with the same hierarchy.

Does this mean I need to create a bunch of blank sub folders as they are in the parent theme? Where do I place it in the child theme?
