Swapping from Shopify to WordPress and the nice thing about Shopify is you can test an plugin for free on a development store.
I’m switching to WordPress but it’s harder to try and test plugins because a lot of them have to pay an upfront fee and it’s usually just a free trial.
The functionality I am looking for would ideally satisfy these requirements for a personal training service:
– Allow me to manage memberships (recurring monthly)
– Allow me to sell single products (merchandise)
– Allow users to manage products and memberships in the same “my account”
– Allow restricted access to products/services to members

Woocommerce + any membership plugin (eg Woocommerce Membership, PMPPro, Ultimate Member, MemberPress)
Many plugins, if not almost all of them, have a completely free version, usually limited to the basics. Maybe you can actually find a free plugin to suit your needs, or a part of them? Then fill in the remaining features with paid plugins. but after you use the free version.
The operating and testing modes depend on the vendor / developer, but most allow you to get your money back if they don’t fill your needs.
