I have set up my domain and purchased WordPress to be hosted by Namecheap. I also purchased Divi Themes ( Theme builder for WordPress) as it was used on some websites similar to what i want to build.
The primary purpose of my website will be as a landing page for some email campaigns for some very specific services. ( Small volume or high dollar contract type stuff with on-going relationship with B2B customers.)
I am committing to building the website myself, primarily because I don’t want to be ‘held hostage’ by a design agency as I anticipate using it as a platform to update communication about my services.
That said I will be engaging design services for things like logo, colors, fonts, etc.( I have a ‘creative’ I’ve worked with in past who does excellent design but he doesn’t build websites.)
The 4 hour wordpress tutorial I was provided by Divi ( Elegant Themes) was by Darrel Wilson and I find it helpful but overwhelming.
So, here is my basic question;
As I am using my website for my actual domain as my ‘guinea pig’, where and how should I ‘shut off’ public viewing of my website until it’s finished?
In the tutorial it shows him hitting ‘Publish’ on blank pages. I would not want those viewed yet – so if I want o create an environment where i can use ‘Publish’ status on all my ‘in process’ pages, how do I control viewing of my website? Is this done within Divi Themes, within WordPress or at Namecheap?

Just go into the dashboard->settings->reading and click the box to “Discourage Search Engines From Indexing the site”. You can also create a coming soon page, set it as your home page while you build out the site. Then when it’s time to launch just set the home page to the actual home page
Or just use a free password plugin like this while developing your site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/password-protected/
