Hi! I’m rather new to the WordPress ecosystem, I come from a hobbyist web dev background. I’m looking to start up a freelancing business creating pages for S&M businesses, WordPress just seems like the way to go.
Something I’m having a hard time envisioning right now while learning the ins and outs is optimizing my workflow.
I guess my question is, it looks like making my own themes for different styles of websites will optimize my efficiency the most. Is this correct? What does the typical WordPress workflow look like (no page builder)? Any advice here on if developing themes is the way to go? Ideally I just have different themes for different genres of sites, and when a client calls, I have something right out of the box that’s most of the way done. Thanks!

I have been using WordPress for 3 years. I suggest you to use licensed themes and licensed plugins if needed. Otherwise, it’s a total time loss.
Have a look at the following two clips. It sounds like you want to do something similar to what Brian was doing:

You are right – a custom built theme will give you the ultimate amount of control & speed – you only add stuff you need. An off the shelf theme will come with plugins, JS, CSS that you don’t need.
