Do you know of a more flexible/better blogging platform than Blogger? (It needs to be simple and straightforward to use.)

My father is trying to create a blog with regular postings and images in those postings. He likes the price (free) for blogger, but is finding it a bit too limited and frustrating to work with, and is interested in finding an alternative solution. He tried WordPress at one point, and found it overly complicated, and wants something that works well, and is simple to use. Any recommendations?
