I came across the [Gantry Theme Framework]) today and it seems really interesting. It also seems like it has been around for a while.
I installed it and poked around and it seems really interesting but also kinda clunky.
What I like about it is that it takes a systematic and centralized approach to styling and some standard information and settings that WordPress usually scatters across different areas like settings, customizer, appearance, etc.
What I find clunky about it is that while a fair bit of stuff is centralized, the UI seems to still require a lot of clicks to get to things, from what I can tell. There’s settings in little gears in components, etc.
In some ways it reminds me of the ACF Flexible Content Layouts approach to building pages and websites, with more control over styling via a GUI, however, it is weird that you cannot see what it looks like; in the ACF case, you can see the content you enter into the ACF fields, but as far as I can tell, in Gantry, you mainly see rows of blocks that you then have to click into, to see the content.
However, since it has been around so long, they must be doing something that people like. Curious to hear about the experiences of anyone that has worked with it.
