How complicated is it to change a theme on already running web?

[ad_1]

My uncle got a older website with Amina theme, that was not worked on for a longer time.

I have already updated all the plugins and freshen up the site with Elementor Pro, but the theme is missing few functionalities and looks like update for it was not released for quite some time. And the theme is also not working with few plugins I wlike to use Other than that, everything seems to work fine.

I would like to change theme to Astra. How much of a complicated process will it be?
I am afraid everything will break and I will need to rebuild the site completely.

What should I prepare myself for?
Many thanks

  1. 1. Take a backup of the site (use Updraft)
    2. Download “Local” from [https://localwp.com](https://localwp.com)
    3. Setup a site in Local, install Updraft and restore the backup
    4. Change the theme and fix any issues that arise.
    5. Either replicate the same changes on the live site, or backup/restore to live.

  2. You can read the below links for the proper theme’s change, just follow the process described, and don’t skip the steps:

You have many good backup plugins/tools for cloning/duplicating sites on e.g. subdomain or locally plus you must backup all the time both sites (production & development one). I use 3 tools for that: All in one plugin for migrations as well as BlogVault and SiteGround hosting’s backup, but that is up to you for the final decision of the tools you will use, according to your preferences and budget.
