While I get the general point, to say WordPress could never hijack the product, yes they could. It just wouldn’t be as simple as what they did with ACF, and would be blatant code added to WordPress to modify already installed plugin code to modify how it updates.
That being said, that would be quickly noticed and a huge uproar about it… but same could be said about other things he has done lately no one thought would happen.
Oh boy, it was kind of an insightful little summary until it became bible study.
